Applications

Applications

Engineered For Demanding Hot-Work Tooling

Die Casting Dies

For aluminium, magnesium and other non-ferrous die-casting applications.

Forging Dies

Used for forging dies, inserts, punches and related hot-working tools.

Extrusion Dies

Suitable for aluminium extrusion dies, backers and associated tooling.

Hot Shear Blades

Used where cutting tools experience elevated operating temperatures.

Hot Punches

Suitable for punches and tooling exposed to high thermal and mechanical loads.

Plastic Moulds

Can also be used for selected moulding applications requiring toughness and thermal stability.

Heat Treatment

Heat Treatment

Developed For High Hardness & Thermal Stability

H-13 is normally preheated and austenitized before air cooling, followed by tempering to achieve the required balance of hardness and toughness.

Preheating

Controlled preheating helps reduce thermal stress before the final hardening temperature is reached.

Hardening

The steel is heated to the appropriate austenitizing temperature and then air quenched.

Tempering

Tempering is performed after hardening to develop the required combination of hardness, toughness and thermal stability.

Double Tempering

Double tempering is commonly used for H13 tooling to improve stability and achieve consistent final properties.
