Heat Treatment

Heat Treatment For Controlled Performance

SAE 8620 Is Particularly Suited To Carburizing And Case-hardening Processes. Published data demonstrate carburizing followed by reheating, oil quenching, and tempering.

Carburizing
Typically performed around 925 °C in published treatment examples to enrich the surface with carbon.

Hardening
Following Carburizing, the material can be reheated to approximately 845 °C and oil quenched in representative treatment schedules.

Tempering
Published Examples Include Tempering Around 150°c, While Other Treatment Conditions Use Approximately 230°c Depending On The Required Properties.
