D-3 is heat treated to develop the high hardness, wear resistance and dimensional stability required for demanding cold-work tooling applications.

Hardening

D-3 undergoes controlled hardening to achieve the required tooling hardness.

Tempering

Tempering is carried out after hardening to balance hardness, toughness and dimensional stability according to the application.

Final Hardness

D-3 can achieve approximately HRC 60–62 after proper hardening, as stated in the supplied reference.
